Everyone who processes work for customers either as an engineering/fabrication shop or a service centre often receive that call from our customer to know how far along his order / items on order is.
Servicing and supplying customers with a product is not all that difficult but giving good and efficient service to multiple customers while staying on top of deadlines and informing customers of the progress of their job is sometimes a battle. So often we end up only realizing that a job is delayed or late because of either later delivery of sub-contract items or a machine that has broken down or just simply increased workload that was generated by more “important” deals or jobs which was pushed into the queue. Normally we only come to the realization by the time when we should be delivering the items to our customer or the customer has arrived to pick up the items, that it has not been completed or that 1 or 2 items have not been completed yet. To stay on top of these challenges it always helps having great software. Good software can be a tool to help with these deadlines. You should rather be able to inform your customer ahead of time or while a job is in production or even at quoting stage or ordering stage whether you will be able to adhere to the delivery times required. So now your customer can be updated in real time when he/she phones in and enquires about his/her items. The SFDC tool gives feedback to SigmaMRP which will allow the sales person to inform a customer at ordering stage whether the company has the capacity to firstly complete the job and secondly by the time deadline.
