A series: Mastercam tips that can drastically improve efficiency 3

EPISODE 3: Training, c-hooks, backups of posts, parts & tool libraries, hardware upgrades

1. Reseller Training at great prices

Investing in Mastercam training can have a huge impact on the efficiency and productivity of your workshop. Despite years of use, programmers are prone to developing bad habits that cause time-consuming delays. With advanced instruction from dedicated resellers, you will unlock the full potential of this widely used software system.

CNC Software trainers strive to keep their classes up to date with the newest features, providing a valuable opportunity for resellers and experienced programmers alike. Benefit from an efficiency boost by calling your local reseller today – they will provide you with both a quote and training schedule.

2. Make use of C-hooks

Not everyone knows this, but Mastercam allows third party developers to create their own toolpaths and features within Mastercam. We at Mecad for instance developed a custom tapered thread toolpath recently, because the custom thread toolpath in Mastercam does not work with tapered angles.  This functionality is now available to our ON-Maintenance customers, which adds huge potential for anyone doing this type of lathe work.

There are many add-ins for Mastercam that come standard, and you can use them every day. The way to access these add-ins are as follows:

    • Click on “Home”

    • Click on “Run Add-In”

    • Choose the desired Add-in between Mastercam add-in’s and third party add-in’s.

3. Upgrade your PC hardware.

Quality CAM software is essential for efficient machining operations – yet subpar hardware can impede its performance. Slow PCs prevent the programmer from exploring the full array of options and often necessitate a hasty decision on toolpaths, with consequences both in terms of productivity and end product quality. Investing in robust PC hardware should be considered an integral part to achieving optimal results when using premium CAM software as it enables proper utilization of features like simulation/verification must not be compromised.
